Timber Sales/Forest Management

We at Forestry Services take great pride in managing timberland for the highest possible return on investment.  We accomplish this with a thorough assessment of your property, knowledge and experience of how trees grow, and daily observations of current market conditions.

Services

Timber Sales - we specialize in obtaining the highest possible value for your timber by ensuring all local timber markets are represented while providing a "turn key" service to protect landowner's interests.  Remember Timber Buyers know more about buying/selling timber than you do and they are looking after their interest, not yours!  Many times you have heard the saying "Buyer be ware".  When you decide to sell your timber it translates into "Seller be ware" and that's where we come in.  We work for you and our job is to protect your interest by achieving the best value for your timber, making he best recommendations for the health of your forest, ensuring the contract language protects you, and finally monitoring the actual logging operation.  Protect yourself - give us a call.

Listed below are the basic steps for every timber sale:

  • Determine Landowner needs and identify timber to be harvested
  • Appraise timber by determining volume and price of various species/products
  • Establish (paint) timber sale lines
  • Develop sale prospectus with map and distribute to local timber markets
  • Conduct "sealed bid" sale at designated time and place
  • Establish contract between Landowner and Buyer
  • Conduct pre-harvest plan with Buyer and Logger
  • Monitor timber harvesting for contract compliance and environmental issues.
  • Conduct final sale inspection to ensure landowner's objectives were met.

Timber Appraisal  - have you ever wondered what your timber is worth?  Our staff will use their experience and knowledge of local markets combined with an on site assessment to determine today's market value of your timber asset.

Management Plans - Which are also referred to as Stewardship Plans are designed to provide the landowner with a professional written recommendation of the activities which need to take place to meet the landowners needs and desires over the next 10 years.  (Ask us how you can receive a  Management Plan for your property at no cost to you.)
Below are the basic steps we use to develop a management plan:
  • Interview Landowner to determine desires and expectations.
  • Thorough assessment of property attributes and forest health
  • Follow up with Landowner to review assessment
  • Develop written plan and map

Regeneration - once you make the decision to harvest timber, you also need to consider the next generation of trees and how they will be established.  We can help - whether you prefer to replant loblolly pine or allow your property to naturally regenerate, we have the tools and experience to ensure a healthy forest for your children and grandchildren to enjoy for years to come.

Pest Control - pests like the Southern Pine Beetle can cause severe timber and economic damage without your knowledge.  We provide a simple annual "check" for any pests that may be present on your property, as well as, recommendations of how to best prevent/eliminate any future issues.

Prescribe Burning - one of best tools in a foresters tool bag to improve forest health is prescribed (or controlled) burning.  The benefits are:

  • Reduction of competing ground vegetation which deprive your trees of  valuable nutrients
  • Converts vegetation to ash which acts as fertilizer for residual trees
  • Reduces the risk of catastrophic wild fire which can destroy your timber asset

 Other:

  • Timber Cruising
  • Timber Marking
  • Right-of-Way Management
